Detroit police hunt auto thieves who snatched Chevy Blazers on the city's east side during Easter weekend. The SUVs are targeted because their parts fetch prices that dwarf the vehicles' worth.

Kenyonia Leveston watched thieves break into her 2025 model and vanish with it Easter morning. Surveillance video captured the suspects as they smashed into the vehicle while it sat in her driveway.

"I was like, wow. He got his Crocs in sports mode and he's taking my car, like what the heck. He doesn't even care — he don't even care to put on gym shoes. He can't even steal it with class," said Leveston according to WXYZ.

The next day, thieves struck another home. That owner said a man smashed the SUV's window. An accomplice helped push it before the vehicle and a getaway car drove off.

"Same guy with the same Crocs on back in sports mode stealing again," Leveston said. "Yes, these are the same people. They're all connected."

Officers told Leveston that Blazers rank as a top target. Police also said thieves pursue the Grand Cherokee.

Retired Detroit Police Department Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt explained how the black-market system works. "If you own a collision shop and you're legit, you're getting legit parts from dealers. But if you're not legit, you buy them from me or from you, whoever off the street at a fraction of the cost, charge the consumer the full price, and they don't know," Dolunt said.

Detroit police haven't confirmed a link between the two thefts.

Anyone with information about the thefts or who recognizes the people in the video should call the Detroit Police Department Commercial Auto Theft Unit at 313-596-2555. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
