The Royal Oak Library will host a one-hour AI literacy session on March 9. Professor Dongxiao Zhu leads it. He founded Wayne State University's AI Research Initiative and brings expertise in machine learning to the event, which introduces modern AI concepts without technical jargon—think large language models and generative tools that people use but don't always understand.
Attendees will learn what AI can and cannot do. Why does bias creep in? What causes hallucinations? How should someone use these tools responsibly? The program covers output evaluation, when human judgment matters more than algorithms, and core principles that make AI trustworthy instead of risky.
The presentation includes hands-on examples and live demos. Topics span privacy concerns, accountability questions, and human-in-the-loop decision-making.
Professor Dongxiao Zhu serves as founding director at Wayne State University's AI Research Initiative. He'll walk participants through AI mechanics—how the technology functions and where failures occur, according to Oakland County Times.
The session targets people who use AI without grasping its inner workings. Most users interact with these tools without knowing their limitations or potential errors, which can lead to misplaced trust or poor decisions.
The program arrives as AI reshapes how people work, learn, and make choices across industries. The technology has woven itself into daily routines for countless users, from students writing essays to professionals drafting emails.
Registration is available online at the library's event calendar. The session takes place at the Royal Oak Library in Royal Oak, Michigan.
