Metro Detroit will present more than 20 events for families this month. Theater shows, maple syrup demonstrations, and outdoor adventures mark the arrival of warmer weather. The Fox Theatre, Detroit Opera House, and Ford Field anchor the entertainment schedule.

Disney's The Lion King opens March 12 at the Detroit Opera House. Performances continue through April 5. The Sound of Music graces the Fox Theatre from March 5 through March 8, while Monster Jam roars into Ford Field on March 21 and 22, according to Little Guide Detroit.com.

Ada Twist, Scientist & Friends plays March 1 at the Berman Center in Bloomfield Hills. Peppa Pig: My First Concert comes to Macomb Center on March 20. Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat – Live on Stage! performs March 28 at Fox Theatre. Supercross races into Ford Field on March 28.

The Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade returns to Michigan Avenue in Corktown on March 15. Pinckney holds its parade one day earlier.

Maple sugaring happens at different spots around the area. Kids learn how sap turns into syrup. March is Reading Month. Libraries across Metro Detroit plan special programs and activities.

Redford Township District Library and West Bloomfield Library have play spaces. Novi Public Library runs a makerspace where children create projects and experiment with tools. Southfield Public Library displays a dragon. Commerce Township Library pairs a story walk with a playground.

Just Between Friends consignment sales happen in Dearborn from March 5 through March 8. The Waterford sale runs from March 18 through March 22.

Spring break starts the last week of March for many schools in the area. Easter egg hunts will pop up at various venues. Grand Rapids attracts visitors on the west side of the state. The Mo Willems & Friends exhibit opens in Muskegon. Hocking Hills in Ohio gives another choice for families who can drive farther.

Indoor play places and aquatic centers provide backup plans when rain or cold keeps everyone inside. Petting farms have opened. Nature trails wind through parks and preserves, perfect for small legs and curious minds.
