Little Kim swung open its doors in July 2025 within Ann Arbor's Kerrytown district, situated beside chef-owner Ji Hye Kim's original restaurant, Miss Kim. This quick-service place relies on chickpeas, tofu, and tempeh rather than factory-made fake meat. Star dishes? A creamy tomato soup built with gochujang and a paneer tomato sandwich served on Zingerman's bread.
Folk launched back in 2018 inside Corktown's Bagley-Trumbull Market building. This Australian-style café puts out all-day brunch with picks for meat-eaters and those who pass on it. Their vegan crunch wrap packs smoked tempeh from The Brinery, cashew cheese spread, pickled red onions, and a tostada sourced from southwest Detroit.
Spacecat V-stro in Ferndale kicked off as a pop-up before settling into a permanent spot. This self-described "vegetarian comfort food laboratory" whips up its fake proteins on site. That includes a maple sausage patty for the Breakfast Bomb sandwich. The Red Dwarf Burger? It holds a lentil and beet patty with avocado and carrot "bacon."
Cacao Tree Café opened in 2010 as a quick-service place where much of what you eat stays raw. The offerings include made-to-order smoothies packed with superfoods and signature salads—think Mexican salad with pico de gallo and cashew sour cream.
The Kitchen by Cooking with Que, created by Quiana "Que" Rice, appeared on season 18 of The Great Food Truck Race. This event space and eatery zeroes in on plant-based dining. Items like the Vegan Surf & Turf swap lion's mane for steak and trumpet mushrooms for "scallops."
Ale Mary's provides a complete vegan menu cooked on a separate station with its own fryers, oven, and flat top. The Southwest Burger uses an Impossible Burger patty topped with pico de gallo, avocado, chipotle aioli, and Follow Your Heart provolone.
Freya earned the 2024 Hour Detroit Restaurant of the Year award. Five- and nine-course tasting menus await, with adaptations for vegans and vegetarians.
Street Beet began as a pop-up collaboration in 2018 and now operates in Corktown. This vegan fast food spot grabbed local fame for its veganized Taco Bell menu called "Taco Hell."
