The Detroit Tigers will donate 135,000 tickets to groups, schools and non-profits throughout 2026. The team did the same thing in 2025.
Two programs make this possible. One is Major League Baseball's Commissioner's Community Initiative Tickets Program. The other is the Downtown Development Authority's Tigers Ticket Donation Program. Groups must fit into one of 15 categories. The categories include first responders, military members, veterans, schools, summer camps, senior citizens, and health-related organizations.
Other categories include Boys & Girls Clubs, cultural groups, social impact organizations, religious organizations, library and reading programs, youth baseball and softball groups, homelessness and housing organizations, and youth and family services. Auction winners and volunteer recognition groups also qualify.
MLB's Commissioner's Community Initiative will provide 85,000 tickets. The DDA Tigers Ticket Donation Program will hand out 50,000 tickets for youth-serving organizations in Detroit and Wayne County.
"Tigers baseball has the power to bring the community together in so many different ways -- we are excited to remove the primary barrier to attending games at Comerica Park through our community ticket donation program," said Jon Perry, Community Impact Manager at Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, according to Ilitch News Hub.
"The complimentary ticket programs serve as a great example of our desire to open our doors and encourage organizations to use Tigers baseball as a vehicle to reach the families that they serve, generating community pride and togetherness through the excitement of America's pastime," Perry said.
The Game Day For Kids program will return in 2026, presented by the Detroit Zoo. Through this program, 4,000 young people and their chaperones will get transportation and food and beverage as part of the DDA portion.
Groups interested in applying for tickets can visit the team's website. Requests are reviewed and approved on a rolling basis from February through September. Organizations interested in the Game Day For Kids program can email Community@Tigers.com for more information.
