Detroit 75 Kitchen will open its first brick-and-mortar location on Friday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. in Madison Heights after pouring $1.5 million into the project, as per WXYZ. The food truck outfit is launching this eatery at 32275 Stephenson Hwy. Twenty-five workers will staff the place full-time.
Walk in and you'll see a retro-diner vibe. Terrazzo-style floors stretch across the space. Look at the tables—Faygo pop bottles, recycled ones, are sealed right into the tops. Photos and gear from Detroit's NFL Draft hang on the walls next to pieces from the PGA Tour's Rocket Classic.
"Madison Heights is exactly where we want to be," said Ahmad Nassar, co-owner of Detroit 75 Kitchen. "We started by feeding truck drivers—people who want real food at a fair price. We're not trying to be a destination restaurant where you visit once for Instagram. We want to be the place you stop for lunch, on your way home from work, where you know the staff and they know your order. That's what a neighborhood sandwich shop should be."
US Weekly gave them a spot in its Top 100 Restaurants in the U.S. The food truck also grabbed recognition as one of the Top 3 Food Trucks in the country.
Nassar talked about serving working people who need dependable meals. This isn't about tourists snapping photos. The owners want regulars who come back because the food's good and the price makes sense.
They built their name feeding truckers. That was years ago, back when they had wheels under them. Now they're trading the mobile setup for four walls and a door that stays in one spot.
Hours run Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturdays, they're open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Sundays.
This Madison Heights spot is their first permanent home. Three days from now, on Feb. 20, they'll flip the sign and start serving, according to WXYZ.
