Slimeball Cinerama kicks off a spinoff called Slimeball Cinerama After Dark on Wednesday. The show screens Night Eyes at 100 Proof at the Detroit City Distillery. This new series features late-night Skinemax movies from the '80s and '90s.

The 1990 film tells the story of a rock star who rigs his home with cameras to catch his wife's affairs on tape. Host and curator AJ Daugherty picked this one for its weirdness rather than actual sex appeal.

"It's not necessarily a sense of sleaze, although sleaze is all over this," said Daugherty, according to The Detroit News. "Moreso, it's like, why do people think this is erotic? What about this is erotic to someone?"

Daugherty started Slimeball Cinerama in May 2024 to share her love of B-movies with others. She's 38, works in cybersecurity, and has built up a massive library of VHS tapes, DVDs, and Blu-Rays over the years.

The monthly event at Hamtramck's Outer Limits Lounge has grown. It went from 15-20 attendees at its start to 60-80 people at recent showings. A screening of "Frankenhooker" last summer drew standing room only attendance.

Colleen Cirocco curates the Weekly Watchlist newsletter and calls the event one of Metro Detroit's most consistent microcinemas. "AJ is fantastic. You get a sense that she's really passionate about these movies, and that passion is infectious," Cirocco said.

The After Dark series will rotate venues, with March's screening planned for the Lager House. The original series continues at the Outer Limits, with "Return of the Living Dead 3" scheduled for Feb. 18.

Wednesday's screening starts at 8:30 p.m. and is free for attendees 18 and over. The venue sits at 1000 Gratiot Ave. in Detroit.
