Union Square Hospitality Group will launch Pine Hall atop the 12th floor of Hudson's Detroit come spring, as per Detroit News. This 300-seat rooftop bar represents Danny Meyer's restaurant group's first venture into Detroit.

A 3,300-square-foot outdoor deck will provide sweeping views of downtown. Glass panels stretching from floor to ceiling offer unobstructed sightlines of the cityscape.

The name pays tribute to The Pine Room. That wood-paneled restaurant ran on the 13th floor of the J.L. Hudson Department Store. It served Detroiters throughout the 20th century, hosting luncheons and fashion shows during the 1950s, '60s, and '70s—speakers and guests filled its rooms for decades.

"Pine Hall is a neighborhood bar worthy of becoming a destination," Meyer said in a press release, as shared by Detroit News. "Our hope is that Detroiters make it part of their regular rotation — a locals joint that brings people together and fits whatever the moment calls for."

Meyer started Union Square Hospitality Group back in 1985. Union Square Café in New York City was his first. His restaurants have collected more than two dozen James Beard Awards and Michelin stars since then, with Manhattan's Gramercy Tavern among them, plus the two Michelin-starred the Modern. He founded Eleven Madison Park but sold it in 2011. Shake Shack? He started that too, although it's now a separate company.

The beverage program will feature Michigan spirits and ingredients sourced from the region. The Final Countdown updates the famous Detroit cocktail, The Last Word. The Pine Hall Sour is made with all local ingredients, according to USHG. The Lemon-Lime Spritz includes sparkling Michigan Riesling, as per Detroit Hour.

Expect tavern-style dishes, shareable plates, and larger entrées. Cold beer. Strong cocktails. Wines.

Pine Hall kicks off multiple projects planned at Hudson's Detroit. A first-floor restaurant will occupy space across Nick Gilbert Way in the development's second building.

When Meyer announced Detroit plans in October 2025, he called the city a place "brimming with culture, creativity, and pride," as reported by Detroit Hour The expansion pushes the group into the Midwest after years of operating in New York and Tokyo.
