Metro Detroit residents are preparing for Thanksgiving trips next week. Low clouds hang over the area while a chilled breeze sweeps through I-94, I-75, and M-10.

The National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office says northeast winds are pulling moisture down from Ontario. Rain and snow? Not happening. Conditions stay dry across the city, Hamtramck, Dearborn, and the Grosse Pointe corridor. Temperatures will inch up Friday when lighter south winds arrive.

MDOT says downtown and suburban freeways will tighten as Thanksgiving trips ramp up. Drivers need to watch for speed changes near construction zones and brace for heavier midday patterns near the airport. No rain or snow is coming through Friday, though morning lows will hover in the low 30s.

Residents should allow extra time on bridges and shaded stretches where lingering cool air can create brief slick patches, according to Country Herald.

Computer models suggest a slight chance of mixed showers early next week, particularly north of the city toward Oakland and Macomb counties. Nothing will stick.

The weekend will be brighter and a bit warmer. Good for outdoor cleanup, early decorating, or short trips before next week's national rush.

Saturday brings mostly sunny skies. Highs near 49. Lows around 35. Sunday looks similar with highs of 49, lows of 38, mostly sunny skies, and calm winds.

Monday will see mostly cloudy skies with highs of 53 and lows of 37. A slight inland mix risk late in the day. Tuesday cools a bit, with partly sunny skies, highs of 49, and lows of 36.

Wednesday stays dry with highs of 48 and lows of 35, making it a strong Thanksgiving trip day before the holiday Thursday.
