Teasdale Foods Recalls Taco Kits in 29 States After Cocoa Mix Replaces Seasoning Packets

Teasdale Foods, Inc. has pulled taco dinner kits from shelves in 29 states. Cocoa mix packets got packaged inside instead of taco seasoning. That's a problem. The cocoa contains milk, which doesn't appear anywhere on the taco kit label.

The Texas company announced this recall on Saturday, Oct. 25. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the FDA alert warns.

Two products got caught in this mess. Martin's and Giant Crunchy Taco Dinner Kit comes in a purple box with UPC 68826757516, lot code 25257, and a best if used by date of MAR 13 26. Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kit shows up in a blue and yellow box with UPC 4099100318715, lot code 25259, and a best if used by date of MAR 15 26.

A third-party supplier caused this mix-up, according to the company. Nobody has gotten sick yet, Teasdale Foods reports.

The recalled kits went to Giant, Martin's, and Aldi stores across Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Washington, DC, got shipments too.

Michigan shoppers who buy tacos for dinner should check their cupboards. Aldi stores across the state sold these kits.
