The cult horror classic The Evil Dead, directed by Sam Raimi when he was only 21, is making a special return to the Redford Theatre in Detroit for a Halloween night screening tonight at 8 p.m.

Originally titled Book of the Dead, the film first premiered at the Redford Theatre on Oct. 15, 1981, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

Starring Bruce Campbell, the film was produced on a low budget and has since grown into a franchise that includes four sequels, a TV series, comic books, video games, and a stage musical.

The story follows five college students who journey to an isolated cabin in the woods for a vacation. There, they discover an audiotape. Playing the tape conjures up a host of demons. Four members of the group become possessed by demons, leaving the fifth member (Campbell) to battle back against the spooks.

Tonight's screening at the Redford Theatre will showcase a rare 35mm print of the movie. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for older adults. The historic Redford Theatre is located at 17360 Lahser Road in Detroit.
