Starting Nov. 14, 2025, the Berkley Public Library transforms its media space into "BerkBuster," a fresh take on classic video rental stores. This new spot aims to bring back the magic of picking out movies with friends and family.

Inside, visitors will find special picks grouped by themes like "Saturday Morning Cartoons" and "Must-See TV." A surprise-filled capsule machine dishes out viewing tips. Your library card still gets you free access to it all.

"We're grateful for the support from the Friends of the Berkley Library, and the vision of our librarian, Lisabeth Conger, to be able to bring the 'BerkBuster' space to life with a retro movie rental theme," said Matt Church, Berkley Library Director, according to Oakland County Times.

The staff shaped this project based on what locals wanted. They picked themes that work for everyone - from kids to grown-ups. The Friends group stepped up with money to make it happen.

"Television and movie watching were once seen as communal activities, but have increasingly become solitary acts. At the Library, we see an opportunity to help re-inspire the 'family movie night' or the 'TGIF' tradition with this transformed space!" said librarian Lisabeth Conger.

The doors stay open to anyone with a card from Berkley or nearby areas. No fees, no fuss - just grab what catches your eye and go.

Mark your calendars for the kick-off party on Friday, Nov. 14, 6-8 PM. They're cutting the ribbon, handing out gifts, setting up photo spots, running games, and serving treats.
