A seven-decade pizza tradition ends this fall. Frank's Family Pizzeria will shut its Biddle Avenue doors on Oct. 30, 2025. The rising cost of ingredients forced this tough choice.

"With the state of the economy, food prices, cheese prices, pepperoni prices, everything, people are only going to pay so much for pizza," owner Joshua Cade said per WXYZ. "They use the highest quality ingredients you can buy, which are very expensive, and when you put them all on a pizza, you can't charge $40 for a pizza."

Staff shared the news on Facebook with raw emotion: "After much consideration, the time has come for us to say goodbye. Your loyalty, your smiles, and your love for our pizza have been the heartbeat of this place, and we are forever grateful."

Since 1952, the pizzeria stood as a local fixture. In 2021, brothers Brandon and Zane Hunt joined forces with Cade to take over. After buying out the Hunts this year, Cade kept the business running. The Hunt brothers moved south to Texas, starting VIA 313 Pizza - now a chain with 25 spots nationwide.

Customers can still order their usual favorites - both classic and Detroit-style pizzas with fresh salads - until the final day.

The space won't stay empty long. "A new, fresh, and exciting concept is forthcoming," stated the Facebook announcement. As building owner, Cade plans to bring in new operators.

The staff's future looks stable. Workers can stay with the incoming business or move to Cade's other spots - Whiskey's on the Water or Latitudes.

"The community was very supportive when we took over, and we appreciate everything the community has done," Cade said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "I hope they support the new place."
