The food scene in Metro Detroit keeps changing. Fifteen bars, restaurants, and cafes opened between August and November 2025. Three shut their doors.
In Detroit's Boston-Edison area, The Rectory started making pizzas next to The Congregation coffee shop. Working from an old church building, they craft 10-inch and 14-inch pies with sauce made from scratch.
Downtown Clawson got Red and the Wolf, which mixes Midwest cooking with Asian twists. The menu shows off bao buns, hot soups, and unique pasta dishes. Aaron and Heaven Cozaad started this restaurant after their first try, Vigilante Kitchen and Bar in Midtown, closed last April.
Adam Merkel brought Bella Limone to Royal Oak's former Pinky's Rooftop space in August. Soon, Little Bella's Pizza & Wine Bar will open below it.
CAVA, which makes Mediterranean food, picked a spot by Campus Martius for its second Michigan location. It sits right by Shake Shack.
East Jefferson Avenue saw Rose's Fine Food come back to life in September. After going dark in 2023, the diner now serves Polish food like kopytka and smoked kielbasa.
October brought bad news for three businesses. Money problems forced Coeur in Ferndale to close on the 19th. Willis Show Bar went quiet in July and put up a for-sale sign on Oct. 16. At Lady of the House, chef Kate Williams and investor Jay Singer's fight means fewer meals served.
Looking ahead, Andiamo Italian Chophouse will join the new JW Marriott Detroit at Water Square in 2027. Bar Gabi brings Romanian cooking to Hazel Park soon. Little Liberia will make history as Michigan's first Liberian restaurant.
Royal Oak's Oakland Community College just showed off its new $74 million Culinary Institute. Students will work in seven kitchens and three classrooms, plus a big 2,600-square-foot restaurant.
Food fans have two big events coming up. Eastern Market hosts the Michigan Brewers Guild's 16th Annual Detroit Fall Beer Festival on Oct. 25. That same day, Royal Oak Farmers Market pours more than 150 spirits at their Bourbon and Brews Fest.
