Romulus shattered records at its fall pumpkin bash last month. The three-day event, running September 19-21, packed in 146 sellers - up from the usual 100.
Downtown Development Authority Director Jerry Frayer talked about the success. "We're growing," he said, according to The News-Herald, after sellers cleared their stock. "Vendors sold out of a lot of things and they made money."
The rush for pumpkins caught staff off guard. "We normally have four bins of pumpkins. I don't know how many pumpkins are in a bin, but we needed two more bins this year," Frayer said.
Crowds swarmed to watch glowing floats drift past in the night parade. Car buffs showed off their shiny classics while runners and cyclists hit the streets for the 5K. Each drew bigger numbers than before.
Even Sunday's downpour couldn't stop the fun. People still gathered for Worship in the Park, and the town paid tribute to its heroes right on schedule.
The surge of visitors brought cash flowing to nearby spots. Walter's Bar buzzed with activity, while Artisan Reserve, Inc. saw steady streams of customers through their doors.
"I think we're on to something good," Frayer noted. While the final count isn't in yet, signs point to the biggest turnout ever for this autumn tradition.
With backing from the Downtown Development Authority, this yearly bash has turned into the crown jewel of Romulus' fall season.
