On September 27, 2025, Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit will run its yearly collection drive. The event spans from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. across southeast Michigan sites. Their goal is to top the 2,500 bikes gathered last year.

"Bike collection day inspires our entire FB4K family every year," said Bob Barnes, executive director of Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit, according to The Macomb Daily. "People in our community really show their true colors when they donate their time and their kid's beloved but outgrown wheels."

Since 2018, kids across the area have received 14,614 bikes. Each bike comes with a fitted helmet to keep young riders safe.

Woodward Corners holds the main collection point - you'll find it at the Corewell Health center where 13 Mile Road meets Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak. The band Holeshot will play live. Brown Iron Brewhouse's food truck will serve meals and give coupons to donors.

The bikes will stay at the Piston Group warehouse until distribution. Former NBA star and Piston Group founder Vinnie Johnson stated, "Our collaboration with FB4K Detroit is meaningful to our company and our community. After all the bikes are donated, we need hundreds of volunteers over the next three months to help get them ready."

Additional drop-off spots include Tru Green in Macomb Township, Bordine's in Rochester, Michigan Institute for Human Performance in Troy, and Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills.

Want to pitch in? From September 29 through December 4, volunteers can clean and fix bikes. Sign up for three-hour shifts through their website - no experience needed. Teams can book group slots by email.

Just before Christmas, pre-registered schools, faith groups, and community organizations will give the bikes to kids. Check fb4kdetroit.org/locations for all drop-off spots.
