The streets of Detroit will roar to life again from May 29-31, 2026, as race cars speed through the 1.7-mile downtown track. This marks the 36th time the city has hosted this major racing event.

INDYCAR added the race date to its 2026 schedule on Tuesday. The three-day competition stays in its traditional spot right after Memorial Day, when summer starts to heat up the city.

Racing through downtown Detroit enters its fourth straight year in 2026. The switch paid off big in 2025 - crowds swelled to 156,000 across three days, beating the previous year by 4%.

The 2025 race shattered old records. Cars zipped past each other 261 times on the street track, the most since moving from Belle Isle in 2023. An amazing 181 of those passes changed race positions, setting new marks for both downtown and the old island course.

Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood crossed the finish line first in 2025. His win proved he had mastered the challenging turns of Detroit's streets.

The move back to city streets has transformed how fans watch the race. Now they stand just feet from speeding cars while Detroit's skyline towers above the action.

Current ticket holders can renew their spots this fall. New buyers get their chance after that. Racing fans who want first pick of seats can sign up at detroitgp.com.
