Officials reviewed a $28.3 million federal funding package for road fixes at a meeting on Wednesday, Septebmer 10. The amount matches last year's budget for street repairs in the area.

The commission gathered at 10:30 a.m. at 2323 Joslyn Road. During this session in Orion Township, they were set to study next year's project plans and update their rules and policies.

Members from 62 towns work with state transportation staff, SMART transit officials, and regional planners to split the money across county streets. Their choices shape which roads get fixed first.

Last year's program tackled major street repairs. A stretch of West Park Drive in Novi cost $3.6 million - federal grants paid $1.2 million while local sources covered $2.4 million. Workers fixed the section from West Road to Pontiac Trail.

Auburn Avenue in Pontiac saw big changes between Woodward Avenue and Opdyke Road. The $3.4 million fix split costs nearly evenly - $1.7 million from federal aid matched $1.6 million in local cash.

In Lathrup Village, crews finished the eastbound side of Eleven Mile Road. They worked from Southfield Road to the town's edge, spending $375,300. Federal money paid $213,000, with local funds adding $162,500.

Unlike fixed yearly amounts, the commission gets money based on each project's needs. This smart approach puts cash where streets need it most. Short patches and long overhauls each get their fair share.
